Q. Where do need to approach for driving license?
Ans
: To local transport zonal office.

Q. Are there any restriction related to obtaining a learner license?
Ans:
The applicant should fulfill the following pre-requisites:

  1. For non-geared small vehicles, he should be above the age of 16 yrs, but in that case, one should have a prior consent from the parents or guardians.
  2. For geared light motor vehicles he should be above the age of 18 yrs.
  3. For commercial driving of transport vehicles, he should have an 1 year experience.
  4. Medical certificate is mandatory by law in all the above cases.

Q. Is Learner License valid through out India?
Ans:
Yes

Q. How long is Learner License valid?
Ans:
It is valid up to six months.

Q. Will I be asked to drive while obtaining a Learner License?
Ans
: No.

Q. Is it compulsory to have a medical certificate for obtaining a Learner License?
Ans
: Yes, it is compulsory especially for commercial vehicles.

Q. What is a "Driving Test"?
Ans
: The inspector at the R.T.O office conducts the test as per the rules in MV Act and refers his recommendations to the concerned R.T.O officer to issue driving license.

Q. What all subjects are covered in the "Driving Preliminary Test"?
Ans
: The questions asked in the preliminary test may belong to the following subjects:

  1. Related to "Traffic Signs", "Traffic Signals" and "Rules and Regulations" as stated in MV Act.
  2. Related to duties of drivers on road.
  3. Related to precautions to be kept while traveling by road.
  4. Related to documents required while travel.

Q. What happens if one fails the driving test?
Ans:
One can apply for re-test after 7 days.

Q. What if one forgets to renew the license?
Ans:
One can renew it within 5 yrs of expiry, but driving with an expired license is an offense.

Q. What documents are needed for Driving License?
Ans:
The following documents are required for Driving License:

  • Residence Proof.
  • Proof of Age.
  • Form no. 1, 1A, 2 and 3

Q. What is the validity time period for Driving License?
Ans:
A Driving License for a private vehicle is valid up to a period of 20 yrs or an age of 50 yrs whichever is experienced earlier. But, a commercial Driving License is valid up to three years.
