Hyundai Motor Makes Delhi Road Safer |
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL)
and Institute of Road Traffic Education (IRTE) in coordination with
Delhi Traffic Police are jointly launching a year long project of
"Student Traffic Volunteers Scholarship Scheme (STVS) called "Hyundai
Traffic Squad" to create road safety awareness and support Delhi
Traffic Police in improving Traffic Management System in Delhi.
HMIL, the second largest car manufacturer
in India, is sponsoring the", Student Traffic Volunteers Scholarship
Scheme (STVS) developed by IRTE, an NGO in road safety education.
Dr K K Paul, Delhi's police commissioner
today inaugurated the scheme, aimed at creating road safety awareness
among the people. Under the scheme, young college and university
students will assist the police in traffic management besides educating
the road users. The scheme offers monthly stipend to 100 students,
who are already selected for the purpose under the banner "Hyundai
Traffic Squad."
Lauding the scheme, Mr B V R Subbu,
President, HMIL, said "Hyundai is proud to be associated with IRTE
and the Delhi Traffic police in their continued and concerted efforts
in creating a positive attitude among the people towards safe road
user culture."
Commenting on the Hyundai Traffic
Squad Mr. M.S Upadhye, IPS, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic)
said, "We are indeed happy to recognize, that more corporates are
participating in the scheme. They are very important part of the
society; we appreciate their efforts for imparting their Corporate
Social Responsibility."
Highlights of the Scheme
- Training Programme
The Scheme comprises Physical training and Classroom training.
Traffic drill, hand signalling and practical control of traffic
at intersections are taught in the physical training to the volunteering
students.
In the classroom-training programme, the students were imparted
knowledge about traffic control devices, road geometric and environmental
features, laws of the road, types of road users, administering
the First Aid and post-accident management etc.
- Timing & Duty Hours
The students will work for 3 hours a day, either in the morning
(8:30 am- 11: 30 am) or in the evening (5:00 pm - 8:00 pm) during
the peak traffic time.
- Uniform
Hyundai has specially designed attractive blue-color jackets with
armbands and caps for the volunteers.
- Insurance
Hyundai has also sponsored for the insurance cover of the students.
- Tasks
The tasks of the students include controlling traffic at intersections
under the direct supervision of the traffic police, organize proper
parking of vehicles in crowded commercial areas, educate pedestrians,
cyclists and other road users about the rules of the road and
safe driving measures. They will also control passengers and bus
drivers at bus stops to prevent overcrowding and jostling while
boarding, monitor traffic outside educational institutions and
conduct surveys for better traffic management.
